Hey folks!
It’s time to talk about Hourglass.
I wrote the first and second draft of Hourglass in 2012. The story grew and I wrote three more books in the series plus one extra. I edited a third draft of the first Hougrlass book in 2013. In the following years I attempted to make it… different. A couple of drafts (obviously failed) went back into the hidden folder on my PC and will hopefully never be seen again.
I am however pleased to inform you that I’m currently working on the FINAL DRAFT! This should be something around draft… 20? I’m not even sure at this point. All I know is that my head is clear and I’m ready to do a final edit.
The series is primarily fantasy but will have in the later (less so in the earlier) books some instances of science fiction as well.
To celebrate the occasion I want to show you the old new (!) book cover. (Why old? Well. I’d love to use it but as you can see it still contains my pseudonym under which I wrote some stories and I seem unable to get a hold of the artist – a guy by the name of Ben Jackson who by the way follows me on Twitter? – to change it.) The artist who made it (Ben Jackson) was able to change the name after all!
It’s pretty! I love it. Ben Jackson did a great job. As he is however non responsive and has been for some time there’s the need to have the picture re-drawn. As the idea behind it was mine and I sort of share the copyright (I don’t have exclusive copyright but I made sure I’d be able to post the cover/use it on my books even those 6 years ago) it will likely be the same image but in a different style. It’s somewhat sad because Ben also did the second book’s cover (same issue) and that also turned out great but there’s at this point really nothing to do if he doesn’t want to work with me any more.
WriteBot shrugs.
The story itself is quite something as well! The first book (Hourglass) deal with the main character (Simon)’s first trip into ancient Egypt. There he meets a young princess (Nefertari) whose throne has been overthrown by an ancient and vile god of chaos (Apep). Naturally, he wants nothing to do with any of it, because who’s ever heard of time travel, gods, and princesses, but Nefertari can be very persuasive when she wants to be (oh and she has a sword). Simon gets stuck in ancient Egypt and can’t get back home easily. In order to go back to his time, then, he has to help Nefertari regain her throne and avenge her father’s death, but honestly, he still doesn’t want to, and only when he’s taken captive by one of Apep’s lackeys he might be forced to change his mind.
Sounds fun! I think you’ll like Hourglass if you’re into anything by Rick Riordan (P. Jackson/Kane Chronicles).
Do you want to know more? Stay tuned! Watch also for the Twitter tag #hourglassbooks! I’ve been working on this for a long time and it shouldn’t be more than a few months until it’s out. I’ll let you know when I’ve more info on it of course!
