Hey everyone! It’s me again (no kidding! It’s my blog after all!).
Today I’ve decided to do something scary. I want to share my 5th draft of Hourglass with you guys. It’s not the whole book – at first – but only an excerpt. The first two chapters. I want to share these chapters for two reasons:
1. It’s a great and fun adventure story I believe everyone should read
2. (a bit less boastful perhaps) I really would love your help with it. It needs beta readers. I’ve worked on it the last five years but these days it’s almost finished. It simply needs a second (third/forth/fifth) pair of eyes before it goes out to my editor!
A short synopsis (+facts) about Hourglass:
Hourglass is the first book of four part time-travel series set in the ancient world (specifically ancient Egypt in book one, ancient Mesopotamia in book two, ancient China, Mesoamerica, and the ancient far North in book three, and all of it together in book three!). Strange creatures and dangerous gods await! Are you ready?
Here’s the synopsis!
A teenage-boy (Simon) who really just wants to be left alone to do his thing (find treasures) is transported back in time to ancient Egypt. Once arrived, he is kidnapped by a princess (Nefertari) and has to help her retake her throne, which has been usurped. There is magic, and there are gods, and some of them are quite unfriendly. There’s also the fact that Simon really really wants to know how he traveled in time. He has quite a scientific mind and doesn’t believe in magic even when it slaps him in the face (almost literally). He also has a secret – the hourglass pendant he inherited when his grandfather disappeared – and he’s not going to give it up when he learns Nefertari needs it. Why should he? She’s just a stranger he just met and who kidnapped him!
Word count: 120k words.
Draft: five (… although it’s been so long and so many changes have been made…)
